Team Philippines at the 41st SEA Age Swimming Championship
CAL Swim School would like to congratulate team Philippines who participated in the recently concluded 41st South East Asian Age Group Swimming Championship held in Brunei from the 10th until the 12th of November. An impressive effort of 26 swimmers and four coaches led by CAL’s Sherwyn Santiago put forth a total of 21 medals with 4 gold, 9 silver, and 8 bronze medals.
CAL tankers Rafael Barreto and Bhay Maitland Newberry delivered three gold medals in the Boys 16-18 50m Butterfly, Girls 14-15 50m & Girls 14-15 100m Backstroke. Veteran SEA Age swimmer Regina Castrillo wins the 4th gold medal in the Girls 16-18 50m Butterfly.
Silver and bronze medalists include CAL’s Camille Lauren Buico, Kirsten Chloe Daos, and Phillip Joaquin Santos along SEA Age veterans Xiandi Chua and Sacho Ilustre. First time SEA Age medalists include Zoe Marie Hilario, Samantha Coronel, and Naomi Locala. An impressive third place 4×100 Medley Relay swim has been achieved by Newberry, Thanya de la Cruz, Buico and Nikki Pamintuan. The team has done a great job of representing the country with the right amount of teamwork, careful planning of the coaches in coming up with the best line up possible to gain the highest medal haul for team Philippines in this competition for the past 5 years. A number of personal best times have been accumulated by the swimmers that helped bring the rankings up in the age group and open categories.
We want to commend our swimmers Rafael Barreto, Camille Lauren Buico, Akiva Jose Cariño, Perry Chua, Kirsten Chloe Daos, Gabriel Guerrero, Ianiko Limfilipino, Bhay Newberry Maitland and Phillip Joaquin Santos for a job well done at this competition. We once again would like to extend our congratulations to this year’s Philippine team and we look forward to more meets like these were swimmers, coaches, and the rest of the community come together to strengthen Philippine Swimming.
